REFLECTING ON MY OWN FEELINGS - KIRILL OVCHINNIKOV
Personally influenced by beauty of the Russian North and eternal wiseness of nature I have discovered this thoughtful and beautiful project by Kirill Ovchinnikov reflecting my own feelings.
The Russian North is a great distance from civilisation in both meanings. It was a month’s journey from Europe before railroads, and also remote from the West, the Russian North experienced none of the major developments which happened in central Europe. It still remains a quiet province far from main roads and big events.
Ovchinnikov’s photographs offer an elegant rendering of traditions, religion and culture. The pictures are full of empathy, and at the same time examine the relationship between human and the place from a synoptic philosophical point of view. Minimalistic fragments puzzle out the whole image and give us a coherent understanding of everything together. It’s totally inspiration.
